North Macedonia’s Sloboden Pecat reported today that Croatian President Zoran Milanović said Srebrenica and Jasenovac are not the same because Jews and Serbs were systematically killed at the Jasenovac camp for several years during World War II.
Speaking to reporters, he echoed a recent statement that there are different types of genocide, saying “Srebrenica is not the same as the Holocaust, it is not the same as Jasenovac.”
Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported Monday “Asked by reporters if Srebrenica was genocide for him, Milanovic said: ‘I say it is, but then for some more serious crimes we have to invent a new name.'” RFE further reported:
Milanovic said a few days earlier that there were “different types of genocide”.
“That is my position in general, however, there are genocides and genocides. There is genocide against the Jewish people, there is genocide about Rwanda, there is genocide in Srebrenica, that is, one event is defined as genocide, and genocide has a very wide range. There is genocide in the Second World War, there is Jasenovac. So not everything is the same as not every victim is the same. This story every victim is the same, no question,” Milanovic said on December 2, conveyed the N1.
