In a joint statement after Thursday’s meeting of Western Balkans leaders in Sarajevo, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to EU integration and called for greater regional cooperation. Regarding the terrorist threat, the statement said: “Returning foreign fighters and risk of radicalised ‘parallel’ communities pose a potential security threat that we are addressing through strengthened law enforcement, anti-terrorism strategies and action plans that increasingly focus on prevention and anti-radicalisation. We recognise that more needs to be done in this area and will engage in close cooperation with the EU, including the extension of its Anti-Radicalisation Network to our region and deepening our cooperation with Europol on counter-terrorism.”
