Sakib Softic, who was BiH’s agent in its suit against Serbia in the International Court of Justice, left Wednesday for The Hague, where he is expected to submit an application on Friday for review of the ICJ’s 2007 judgment in that suit. He is accompanied by Dzevad Mahmutovic, a legal adviser to the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency, Bakir Izetbegovic.
[Serb officials in BiH] claim that the review cannot be conducted as Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state isn’t standing behind the request and has questioned Softic’s status to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina, claiming that he was authorised in this capacity only for the initial trial whereas the review would be a new proceeding that requires a new powers-of-attorney issued by the relevant authorities, or rather the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
