BiH moved another step closer to EU membership today, as the Council of the European Union accepted the country’s application and, in accordance with EU procedures, invited the European Commission to “submit its opinion” on the application. In a set of conclusions released today, the Council reaffirmed its “unequivocal commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU perspective as a single, united and sovereign country.”
The next step is for the Commission to send BiH authorities a questionnaire that will assess progress on the reform agenda, after which the Commission will deliver its official recommendation to the Council.
