Earlier this week, head of the BiH Statistical Agency Velimir Jukic announced that his agency would publish the results of the 2013 census without reaching the long-sought agreement on methodology with his entity-level counterparts. The decision attracted immediate criticism from Serb political leaders from both the RS government and opposition.
Mirko Sarovic, deputy chair of the BiH Council of Ministers, said that Jukic had not informed or sought approval from the Council of Ministers before announcing his decision, nor does his decision have the support of others in the BiH Statistical Agency.
Mladen Ivanic, the Serb member of the BiH presidency, called Jukic’s decision “a terrible mistake,” and condemned the agency’s failure to compromise with the entities.
“We will have the opportunity to see the negative consequences that this decision will bring”, Ivanic said, warning that the census will lack legitimacy inside Bosnia.
