BiH and entity officials are debating the details of a new IMF loan agreement, which will likely be finalized in May. Some disagreements remain between parties, however. Mladen Ivanic, the Serb member of the BiH presidency, has expressed reservations about the creation of a BiH-level banking oversight agency.
Bosnia has two regulatory agencies for banking but they operate only at the level of the two entities.
However, Bosnian Serb officials – always wary of moves towards centralisation – oppose the creation of a regulatory agency at state level.
“I am against this idea”, Mladen Ivanic, the Serbian member of the three-member Bosnian Presidency, said on Monday.
Both entities are depending on a new agreement with the IMF in order to meet their budget obligations.
