Republika Srpska President made a statement on Monday welcoming BiH’s application for EU membership, and congratulating Dragan Covic for delivering it. He noted that the submission of a formal application “represents some progress.” However, President Dodik reiterated that the coordination mechanism recently announced by the Council of Ministers of BiH was not properly approved by the entities. The RS has been pushing for the formation of such a mechanism for several years, but the RS government did not sign off on the agreement reached at the BiH level.
President Dodik also stressed that EU membership will not solve all of the problems BiH faces. “Candidate status makes many things possible for BiH itself. However, those who shamelessly believe in Europe should have a look at what is going on in Europe. Europe ten years ago is not Europe we have today. There are many ongoing issues that cannot be solved and it will change its internal structure,” said Dodik.
