A special report featured this week on BIRN’s television program “TV Justice” focuses on a 1995 massacre of Serb civilians conducted by “Mujahidin” foreign fighters, who were under the command of the Bosnian Army. The killings, along with kidnappings, detention, and torture, took place in and around Vozuca. The former commander of the Bosnian Army’s Third Corps, which included the El Mujahid Detachment, is currently facing trial for related offenses.
The Bosnian prosecution has alleged that the Islamic volunteer fighters ritually beheaded some of the prisoners as well as abusing and torturing them, cutting some of their ears off and stabbing them all over their bodies.
Bosnian Army commander Rasim Delic was sentenced to three years in prison by the Hague Tribunal over the crimes committed in Vozuca but the direct perpetrators have still not been convicted, 20 years on.
