Police in the Federation arrested the former general manager of Sarajevo’s public transit company and two other company employees. The men are charged with “misuse of office that inflicted “serious repercussions and harmful consequences” on the work of the company and on the Sarajevo cantonal budget, the prosecutor’s office said.”
“The case of the Sarajevo Public Transportation Company is probably one of the worst corruption cases in the recent history of this country,” the official said, adding that the former management is believed to have misappropriated or wasted tens of millions of euro through mismanagement, bogus contracts and other means.
Other sources familiar with the case say that the arrests are just an attempt, by local officials, to appear tough on corruption.
