German Chancellor Angela Merkel and EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini are both planning visits to BiH this week, and local leaders hope the visits could resurrect the country’s stalled reform process.
“The upcoming days are critical for Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the Bosnian Serb chairman of Bosnia’s tripartite presidency, Mladen Ivanic, was quoted as saying by local media.
“If we miss this opportunity [to push forward a reform agenda], which may not be ideal but is serious, I doubt that in another ten years any other serious country will appear to deal with Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he added.
Entity leaders acknowledged last week that they had failed to reach an agreement on a joint reform action plan, and neither entity has passed a new labor law, both prerequisites for further IMF and EU funding.
