Republika Srpska Prime Minister Zeljka Cvijanovic told press last weekend that she and her counterpart in the Federation, Fadil Novalic, had spoken about the need for the two entities to cooperate and “harmonize” their actions with regards to IMF obligations. PM Cvijanovic also said that she and Novalic hoped the IMF would show some flexibility toward BiH and the entities.
She said they were expecting a bit more favourable terms and conditions and that they were trying to harmonise the behaviour of Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH so that the two Entities could settle their obligations at the same time, given the fact that it frequently happened that one level settled its obligations while another did not, which made them “wait for the other one to catch up”.
“I think that IMF representatives can understand this because at the end of the day, it was them that initiated such an approach and behaviour on our part, so basically, we hope for more flexibility in terms of time limits for IMF reviews and this means better, more flexible and longer periods in comparison to the arrangements we’ve had so far,” said Cvijanovic.
