After a short revision process, the BiH Presidency said today that it had agreed to and signed a new draft of the joint statement of commitment to reforms required by the European Union. The commitment is part of the EU’s new strategy in BiH. The Presidency’s first draft of the joint statement drew objections from leaders in Republika Srpska, who felt the document overstepped the bounds of the BiH-level government’s jurisdiction under the constitution.
The new draft was based on revisions put forward by SNSD leader Milorad Dodik, and consultations with other major party leaders. Mr. Dodik told press on Friday that the new document was acceptable, and that he has spoken with the German foreign minister to express SNSD’s and Republika Srpska’s commitment to the process.
“It is not important that the Presidency accepted our demands, it is important that the diplomacy chiefs of Germany and Great Britain accepted it, and confirmed that our demands were completely logical and normal,” Dodik said.
The EU released a statement welcoming the approval of the new draft as well.
