The premier of Una-Sana Canton, Hamdija Lipovaca, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a local corruption case. Lipovaca is a leading figure in the SDP, a party already facing significant setbacks after this year’s election.
The case concerns allegations of corruption dating from the time when he was mayor of the northwestern city of Bihac.
The Una-Sana Cantonal Prosecutor declined to detail the reasons for Lipovaca’s arrest but said he was suspected of misusing his position and authority.
After being questioned on Wednesday, Lipovaca’s lawyer, Salih Hodzic told the media that the case concerned the construction of a sports and recreation centre in the Bihac municipality.
