Leaders of the BiH Islamic Community issued a statement this week discouraging political parties from using mosques as venues for political activities ahead of next month’s elections.
“The Islamic Community in BiH demands that all political parties and their activists not treat mosques and the premises of the Islamic Community with disrespect with their party and election activities and not misuse mosque hospitality and the openness of the Islamic Community,” the statement said.
The Islamic Community made the statement following reports that the mainly Bosniak Party of Democratic Action, SDA, was to hold a press conference in a mosque in the southern city of Mostar.
“It should be clear to everyone that the Islamic Community will not be promoting any political party, and the premises of Islamic Community and public religious gatherings cannot be used for the promotion of any party,” the statement added.
