High Representative Valentin Inzko announced today that he had lifted orders, enacted previously by his office, that prevented 30 individuals from holding any public office or function. The bans, which have long been criticized as arbitrary, extralegal, and overly harsh, were the last such orders in place. In his statement announcing the lifting of the bans, Mr. Inzko reserved the right to enact such measures again in the future, despite the fact that the Dayton Peace Agreement grants no such authority to the OHR.
