Gojko Vasic, Republika Srpska’s Director of Police, told reporters in Banja Luka that authorities in BiH need to pay more attention to the issue of identity and residence fraud.
“We in BiH have to make great efforts to establish a system of full control over the movement of the population, and in this manner to preclude human trafficking and misuse of identities of the persons killed in the war.”
The BiH Constitutional Court recently struck down an RS government decision that directed entity authorities to confirm the identities of individuals attempting to register addresses within RS. BiH Parliament has failed to pass a BiH-level law that would serve the same purpose. In the absence of a law on residence, identity fraud is expected to undermine the integrity of upcoming elections in BiH.
