RS prime minister Zeljka Cvijanovic defended a decision recently adopted by the RS cabinet that would strengthen the requirements for residents to register their accurate addresses in Republika Srpska. The measure, which PM Cvijanovic says is “aimed at suppressing the practice of registering fictitious permanent places of residence,” has been criticized by Bakir Izetbegovic, member of the BiH Presidency, who has suggested that the High Representative should punish the RS government for enacting it.
“Mr. Izetbegovic probably thinks it is all right for thousands of people to use fake addresses, to register their place of residence at addresses of institutions, religious communities or non-existent buildings, and thinks it is all right for thousands of official papers to be returned to institutions that sent them because those who should have received them do not live at the addresses they reported,” Cvijanovic said.
She said it was Izetbegovic who halted the bringing of a law on permanent residence in the BiH Parliament which contains provisions that are in force in every normal country and are completely in accord with European practice, so it is absolutely needless to remind anyone of the competencies of the Parliament.
She said that the decision, which the Cabinet adopted at a session yesterday, is provisional, and will be enforced till the law is brought, adding that if Izetbegovic really wants, he can resolve this issue very simply in the BiH Parliament.
