The Foreign Affairs Council of the EU met today in Luxembourg to discuss a number of issues from around the world, highlighted by the ongoing war in Syria and the crisis in Ukraine and Crimea. The Council also discussed the state of affairs in BiH.
In line with recent statements by EU officials in BiH, the Foreign Affairs Council confirmed that BiH efforts in coming months will focus on economic development and civil society outreach. Previous EU-led efforts to broker agreement on the Sejdic-Finci issue, which have been quite intensive, will essentially be abandoned under this re-prioritization.
In her statements to the Council, Baroness Catherine Ashton said that the EU would be working to craft a “compact for growth and jobs,” as part of its effort to assist in BiH’s development while bringing it closer to the EU.
