High Representative Valentin Inzko welcomed the confirmation of new judges for the Federation Constitutional Court last week. The appointments had been held up for several months, and the shortage of judges on the court has made it impossible for the Court to hear claims of Vital National Interests, which have blocked several pieces of legislation.
“The relevant authorities now need to move swiftly to ensure that the new judges take up their positions as soon as possible. Once they have taken their positions on the court, we also expect the Federation Parliament to appoint the remaining judge to the vital national interest panel as soon as possible so as to ensure that the panel is fully functional and can decide on pending cases.”
