Having already missed an IMF-imposed deadline, the BiH parliament finally agreed upon the 2014 budget on December 30.
MPs proposed almost a hundred amendments to the budget, delaying its adoption almost until New Year’s Eve, mainly because the Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ, sought 3 million euro allocated for use in the southwest city of Mostar.
After the House of Peoples confirmed the budget bill by urgent procedure, some lawmakers complained about the speed, saying the budget only seemed to merit discussion in the lower chamber, the House of Representatives.
Adopting the state-level budget before the end of the year was important to assure the financing of institutions and obtain another tranche of 30 million euro from the IMF.
