At a ceremony in Banja Luka this week, RS National Assembly President Igor Radojicic spoke in praise of the Republika Srpska Alliance of National Minorities, which celebrated its ten-year anniversary.
“In addition to a cultural framework, we have cultural events, including a review of national minorities which also has been held for the past ten years,” Radojicic said on Thursday night.
He added that amendments to election legislation have introduced obligatory representation of national minorities in local government bodies and in the Council of Peoples, and they are also represented in the media, which provides a quality framework for their life in Republika Srpska.
Radojicic called on all national minorities to freely declare their ethnicity at the upcoming population census.
Mr. Radojicic also remarked that the term “national minorities” was clearly preferable to the term “others,” which is used by the BiH Constitution to refer to ethnic groups other than Serbs, Croats, and Bosniaks. Amending the Constitution to correct the issue, however, would prove difficult, according to Mr. Radojicic.
