RS president Milorad Dodik met in Banja Luka today with EU Special Representative Peter Sorensen to discuss issues surrounding BiH’s eventual candidacy for EU membership. The meeting was also attended by a number of EU member-state ambassadors and representatives.
At a press conference following the meeting, President Dodik expressed confidence that the Sejdic-Finci issue could be resolved by BiH parties before a meeting in Brussels scheduled for October 1.
Emphasizing that in RS there is a consensus around the manner of implementing the ECHR’s ruling in the Sejdic-Finci v. BiH case, Dodik said that RS “gave the possibility to its federal partners that in the agreement, affirming the specificity of the Federation, a solution would be proposed.”
Sorensen…emphasized that the stance of the EU is clear, and that he bore a message to the RS president “that in the upcoming year, the EU wants to invite BiH to become a member state.”
President Dodik also made it clear that Republika Srpska is “committed to the European road.”
