The recent arrest of SDA MP Semsudin Mehmedovic by the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) has sparked a row between that agency and the BiH Prosecutor’s office. According to the Prosecutor’s office, the arrest of Mehmedovic was carried out without proper authorization. Meanwhile, SIPA accuses the prosecutor of obstructing their investigation:
“After the arrest, the agency verbally requested an agreement from the prosecutor’s office to examine certain residential buildings, which the office refused. Such behaviour by the BiH prosecutor is common. During the investigation, members of the agency documented influence on some witnesses in this criminal case, as well as threats that a person who was detained sent to witnesses and agency investigators, aiming to hamper the investigation,” Kristina Jozic, agency spokeswoman, told SETimes.
SIPA suspects Mr. Mehmedovic, who was a police commander during the 1990s in the town of Tesanj, of involvement in war crimes against Serbs.
