Bosnian MP Arrested Over War Crimes – BalkanInsight

The Bosnian State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, arrested former policeman turned MP [Semsudin] Mehmedovic early on Friday morning in connection with allegations that officers he controlled during wartime abused civilian prisoners in the town of Tesanj in central Bosnia in 1992 and 1993.

Mr. Mehmedovic is a member of the SDA. In statements following the arrest, SIPA representatives claimed that their investigation of the lawmaker had been partially obstructed by the BiH Prosecutor’s office, while Dusanka Majkic, an SNSD member of the BiH House of Representatives, alleged that the Prosecutor’s office had been intentionally neglecting the case for four years.

Mr. Mehmedovic’s attorney, however, claimed that her client had been arrested because he was due to give testimony against SIPA Director Goran Zubac before the BiH Prosecutor.
