Citizens blockaded the BiH parliament on Thursday to protest lawmakers’ failure to enact a new law governing the issuing of personal identification numbers. The protesters prevented anyone from leaving the parliament building until around 4:00 am on Friday morning, when 350 foreign citizens were allowed to leave the building. Council of Ministers Chairman Bevanda escaped from the building through a window, according to earlier reports.
High Representative Valentin Inzko was involved in the effort to release the foreign citizens from the building, and reportedly also promised the protesters that he would act to achieve progress on the personal ID number issue.
