The lower house of the Federation parliament voted yesterday to adopt a measure cutting the pensions of war veterans, despite protests by veterans’ groups. The cuts are necessary, according to Federation Prime Minister Niksic, in order to meet the requirements of an IMF agreement that would provide €40 million to the Federation. PM Niksic warned of the danger the entity and BiH would face if it did not adopt the cuts:
“We would endanger the budget of the whole country, and that of Republika Srpska, too,” Niksic said, in reference to the country’s other autonomous entity.
“Adoption of this law, on the other hand, will ensure pensions, reimbursements and salaries are paid… and offer preconditions for their possible increase,” he added.
