Member of the BiH Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the margins of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Cairo. The two discussed the ongoing civil war in Syria, as well as relations between Iran and BiH.
Ahmadinejad reiterated the urgent need for national reconciliation in Syria and expressed the hope that all parties involved in the Syrian conflict would end violence and follow the path to national dialogue, understanding and free elections.
During the meeting, Izetbegovic called for the expansion of Sarajevo-Tehran relations.
He noted that Bosnian Muslims would like to see an increase in the Islamic world’s influence in the international arena.
Iran’s government is the main ally of Syria’s al-Assad regime, while Mr. Izetbegovic has previously criticized the international community for failing to “save the Syrian people from tyranny.”
