RS Minister for Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation Zeljka Cvijanovic said, in an interview today, that EU Delegation officials would be facilitating a series of meetings with the SNSD and all other BiH parties on the matter of the Sejdic-Finci decision. The meetings will run through February and March, with the goal of reaching a comprehensive political agreement by the end of March. Minister Cvijanovic said that all RS parties, including opposition parties, were in “absolute agreement” on this issue.
“That should be a model for any other important issue, as well as for the European Road Map in its entirety. SNSD did, in the interest of a speedy resolution, express its view even before [the European Court for Human Rights’ decision in the Sejdic-Finci case] was published three years ago. Last year all the parties from Republika Srpska agreed upon a proposal that fulfills this judicial decision, and that became, and remained, a unique position of political parties from Srpska,” Ms. Cvijanovic said.
Implementation of the Sejdic-Finci decision is the first milestone on the EU Road Map, a prerequisite for BiH’s EU accession process. In addition, as Ms. Cvijanovic stated, the decision must be implemented in order for BiH’s 2014 elections to conform to EU standards.
Minister Cvijanovic further stated that an “asymmetrical” solution to the Sejdic-Finci issue would not be a problem, as there are already a number of administrative differences between the entities.
