Serbia’s foreign minister, Vuk Jeremic, has been elected President of the United Nations’ General Assembly. Jeremic competed with the UN ambassador from Lithuania in a rare election for the position. It is more common for a given region to select the president by consensus.
BiH abstained from voting, as the tripartite presidency could not reach a consensus.
